The Newport Beach Junior Lifeguard Program is divided in to four age group divisions.
Age groups are determined based on your child's age on June 30 of the current program year.
Division D
This division focuses on acclimating Junior Lifeguards to the ocean environment and building confidence through fun activities and competitions. The D instructors are experts at helping first-time Junior Lifeguards love their summer!
Division C
The C Junior Lifeguards compete in many different events and start to increase their depth of knowledge about ocean safety. They are also familiarized with different beach orientation field trips throughout Newport Beach.
Division B
The B Junior Lifeguards compete in more challenging events and increase their depth of knowledge about ocean safety and first aid. Returning and new Junior Lifeguards gain a wealth of knowledge and attend a variety of beach orientation field trips throughout Newport Beach.
Division A
The A Division meets at Lifeguard Headquarters at the Newport Pier on most days. This division takes the next step in learning more about our diverse beaches, ocean awareness, rescue techniques, and first aid. On Thursday D, C, & B competition days, they provide extra safety to the younger JGs. This group also has an opportunity to participate in some Division-A-Only beach orientations. Last year, these field trips included a boat ride to Catalina and a trip to the Newport Aquatic Center.
